Litaker Insurance was founded in 1933 in Charlotte, North Carolina, by Charles H. Litaker Sr. The family-owned and -operated independent property and casualty insurance agency was established with the core mission of making a difference in the lives of its clients, colleagues, and the community with an unwavering commitment to providing exceptional and tailored service and products to individual and commercial clients. This service philosophy has remained strong and unchanged through four generations of the Litaker family over more than 90 years.
At Litaker Insurance, employees and clients are treated like family. Client relationships are built on trust, reliability, open communication, and genuine care to help them proactively protect their most important assets—their homes, businesses, belongings, and families. The enduring legacy of Litaker Insurance has been firmly established over the past century with the purpose of helping individuals and families protect and build their own legacies for generations to come.
Charles H. Litaker Sr. founded Litaker Insurance in Charlotte, North Carolina, in 1933 with one desk in the lobby of an Uptown building. Over more than 20 years from the end of the Great Depression through WWII and beyond, he built the firm foundation of what is now a fourth-generation, family-owned, independent insurance agency. Charles Sr. passed away from ALS in 1955, but his wife, Eloise, assumed the role of President to help keep his dream alive.
Eloise graduated from Meredith College with a degree in chemistry. She taught high school science and also worked in a physics testing lab at the Bureau of Standards in Washington, D.C., a significant feat for a female in the late 1920s. After her husband died, she used the life insurance proceeds to buy out the other partners and took business classes at night to learn the ins and outs of operating an insurance agency. She led the business for nearly a decade until her sons, Dan Litaker and Charles "Charlie" Litaker Jr., joined her to continue their father's legacy. Eloise passed away at the age of 107 in 2013.
In the mid-1960s, brothers Dan and Charlie Litaker joined their mother to help continue building on the firm's founding principles of service to its employees, clients, and community, while expanding offerings and capabilities. Dan and Charlie are responsible for forging many of the long-standing relationships with the region's top insurance providers, while solidifying the agency's sustainable business model.
In the mid-1980s, cousins Archie Litaker (Dan's son) and Hans Litaker (Charlie's son) joined the family business. Archie sold insurance to both personal and commercial clients, specializing in building specialty programs in industries like hospitality, construction, and property management, while Hans focused on individuals and families looking for personal lines insurance. In the early 2000s, they rolled into executive leadership roles as their fathers retired. Together, they continued the strong relationships built with long-term clients and partners while also introducing new and forward-thinking processes, capabilities, and technologies into the firm's operations.
In the early 2010s, brothers Justin Litaker and Hunter Litaker (Archie's sons) joined the Litaker Insurance team, marking the fourth generation of the family firm. Justin and Hunter both provide personal and commercial insurance and have ushered in a new generation of customer service, best-in-class technology offerings, and expansion into new markets. As the third generation looks toward retirement, Justin and Hunter are honored to continue building upon the firm foundation laid by their father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and hope to continue the family legacy for generations to come.
