With COVID-19 fresh on the mind and social distancing a new way of life, this summer may not be like any in recent history. But having more time at home means you can't tackle some of those projects you've been putting on the back burner for months, or even years. Here are some ideas for projects to embark on this summer.
Painting:
Need to touch up the walls in the kitchen? Always wanted to paint your bedroom a calming color of blue? This summer is a great time to work on painting projects, for many reasons. One, the supplies for this project are simple, relatively inexpensive and easy to acquire without too much interaction. Two, what else do you have to do?
Starting a Garden:
Whether you want to expand on your existing garden or are just getting started from scratch, this summer is the perfect time to work on your gardening skills. Your garden can be as simple or as complex as you like, but there's not much of a downside if things do not go as planned. Plus, if things work out, you might just make your family a little more self-sustaining, and get to enjoy some amazingly fresh vegetables to boot.
Deep Cleaning:
Cleaning may not be as glamorous as some other at-home projects but if you approach it the right way, it can be just as satisfying. Take on just one room or area at a time, and get down to the nitty gritty to make any space in your home feel brand new.
DIY Renovations:
If you have a DIY or small renovation project you've been dreaming of getting done, now's the time. With the internet and YouTube, there are not many things you can't learn to do yourself online and you might even be able to find remote expert help and support. But remember, if anything major goes wrong, pick up the phone and call in a professional.
Building/Refinishing a Deck:
There's no better way to enjoy your neighborhood and now, your neighbors than building a deck. For a construction newbie, it can be a fairly simple project, and when you're finished, you'll be able to enjoy many things from a safe distance.
Creating Outdoor Living Spaces:
It may be a necessity to stay home a little more this summer, but that doesn't mean you have to keep staring at the same four walls and driving each other crazy. Creating an outdoor space gives you another option, and a way to enjoy the fresh air and sunshine without having to venture someplace crowded with people. Spruce up your porch with chairs, twinkly lights and curtains; purchase an outdoor canopy; or just arrange an outdoor rug and some garden furniture to give yourself a perfect spot for summer lounging or remote working.
